The foundation
stone for the present school building
was laid by the then Chief Minister of
West Bengal, Dr. B.C. Roy on December
9, 1957 and in March 1960; the senior
school was transferred to the present
building at 78, Syed Amir Ali Avenue.
The school had efficient Headmistresses
all along. Mrs. Clarke was followed by
Mrs Robeiro during the early 60’s,
followed by Mrs. Pastakia from 1963-65.
Mrs I.L. Wilson de Roze was Headmistress
for the longest period, from 1965-2000.
The present Principal, Mrs. D. Kar, joined
in April, 2000.
In the academic field MHS created history
in 1968 when Malabika Chakravarty - a
Humanities student, broke all records
and stood first among all the groups in
the Higher Secondary Exams. Throughout, girls in different batches have secured
ranks in the Secondary and Higher Secondary
Examinations.
In 1985, 'Maitree',
the inter-school fest organized by classes
XI and XII, was held for the first time at the Ice Skating
Rink. In March 1987, the foundation stone
for the Science Hall with the Planetarium
was laid. Computer classes started in
the Science Hall from February 1988, after
its inauguration. Modern High School celebrated
its Golden Jubilee in 2002.
The school is affiliated to the CISCE. Students appear for ICSE and ISC examinations at the end of class X and XII respectively.
